Cloud Physics Aircraft Data Indices

Cloud Physics aircraft data index files for the research flights conducted from 1983 to 1985 have been completed. The aircraft data were broken into hourly files. The index file summarizes the amount of information collected for each hour of the research flight.

The first line provides a brief description of the purpose of each research flight, including the date, start and end time of data collection (hh:mm UTC) and the type of study carried out. The subsequent lines describe the filename (YYMMDDHH), file size (in KBytes and MBytes) as well as the number of records collected (including the 2-D imagery).

Example:

Filename	KBytes Totals	2D-C	2D-P	MBytes
		(blks/2) (KB/1024)

83-Jul-03	23:20 - 01:25	Hail
83070323	6575 2523	19	115	6.42
83070400	14571 4838	338	900	14.22
83070401	4405.5 1643	60	89	4.30

A flight for the purpose of carrying out Hail experiments was conducted on July 3, 1983 from 23:20 to 01:25 UTC. File 83070223 contains 2523 records collected between 23:20:00 to 23:59:59. During this time period there were 19 and 115 records containing 2D-C and 2D-P imagery, respectively. This file is 6.42 MB in size.

Further descriptions of the various experiments, the aircraft platform, instrument calibrations, record formats are under construction.
