The 2001 NOC-S is a statistical classification derived from the NOC and used to classify occupation data from the census and other Statistics Canada surveys. The 2001 NOC-S and the NOC have the same unit groups, minor groups and broad categories. It is only at the major group level that the two classifications differ: the 2001 NOC-S has 47 major groups compared to 26 in the NOC. Because of this difference in aggregation structure, the 2001 NOC-S uses a different numbering system than the NOC.
