    RETRIEVE DATA

The Data Library currently offers direct retrieval of data from CANSIM, the 1996 Canadian Census, and the Metropolis Project. For access to other data holdings, visit the Data Library at 1-108 Rutherford North.

CANSIM  (The Canadian Socio-Economic Information Management System) is a  Statistics Canada database which provides access to current and historical socio-economic time series collected by Statistics Canada and other government agencies such as the Bank of Canada. The database itself consists of over 650,000 series, many of which constitute a data record spanning several decades. Some time series contain greater detail than is available in print-published form. The  database is structured around matrix numbers and series labels. The final product delivered by the database is a specific time series. Access to CANSIM is restricted to CURRENT STUDENTS, STAFF,  AND FACULTY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA, and may be used for NON-COMMERCIAL purposes only.

Census of Canada, 1996  Tabular data containing  social and economic characteristics of Canada's population for the nation, provinces and territories, census metropolitan areas, and smaller geographic areas. The Data Library currently provides access to the following Census 96 series of products: Dimensions, The Nation, Profiles, Basic Summary Tabulations, and the Census of Agriculture. Special (free) software may need to be installed on your computer to view some of these data -- links and instructions are provided. Access to Census of Canada data is restricted to CURRENT STUDENTS, STAFF,  AND FACULTY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA, and may be used for NON-COMMERCIAL purposes only.
