    DATA LIBRARY COLLECTION

The Data Library collection is comprised primarily of computer-readable data files and their accompanying documentation (also known as codebooks).

The data collection is stored remotely or on the Data Library server, and may be retrieved on request by the Data Library Co-ordinator.  Reference copies of data documentation are available for consultation in the Data Library, Rm. 1-108 Ruthford North. A second, circulating, collection of codebooks is currently being processed and will soon be made available for general access in  Rutherford North library stacks.

The Data Library's collection is obtained from two main data sources: Statistics Canada (for Canadian data); and the ICPSR (Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research).

Statistics Canada data includes previous and current Censuses of Canada, CANSIM, the National Population Health Survey, the National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth, the Health and Activity Limitation Survey, and many more.

ICPSR data includes primarily American and international data, along with major international social surveys such as the International Social Survey Programme.

Other notable items in the Data Library include the University of Alberta Population Research Laboratory's All Alberta Surveys, and a collection of Canadian Gallup Polls.
